Form: long stemmed, umbrella shaped
Flower: 3-5cm white flowers growing between
leaves
Fruit: large, fleshy, lemon-like berry
Seeds are toxic
Location: Eastern North America,
Along running water, moist soils, clumped,
shady clearings. N 40 W 80
Economic/Ecological Importance:
-pharmaceutical source of podophyllum
- used as a treatment for cancer
-fruit can be used in jellies
-flowers are pollinated by bumblebees and
other long-nosed insects
